1. Pre-Treatment & Spot Cleaning:

   Always address stains and heavy soil immediately. Use a soft brush or cloth to remove loose dirt. For mud, let it dry completely and brush it off. Pre-treat grease, blood, or stubborn stains with a gentle, non-bleach stain remover or a dab of liquid detergent before the main wash.

   

2. Gentle Machine Washing:

   Close all hook-and-loop (Velcro) fasteners, zippers, and flaps to prevent snagging. Wash the garment inside out in cold water on a gentle cycle. Use a mild, non-bleach, non-optical brightener detergent. Harsh detergents and fabric softeners can degrade moisture-wicking treatments, flame-resistant (FR) finishes, and waterproof membranes (if applicable).

3. Proper Drying – Air Dry First:

   The single most important rule for longevity is to avoid high heat. Never use a tumble dryer unless the care label explicitly permits it (usually on low heat). Always air dry your tactical gear away from direct sunlight. Hang it on a wide, padded hanger or lay it flat. This preserves the fabric's integrity, elastic components, and any special coatings.

4.Reapply DWR (Durable Water Repellent) Finish:

Over time, the water-repellent coating on outer layers will wear off. When water no longer beads up, clean the garment thoroughly and use a spray-on or wash-in DWR reproofing product designed for technical fabrics. Follow the product instructions carefully. This restores weather resistance without compromising breathability.

5. Smart Storage & Regular Inspection:

Store your clean, completely dry gear in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place—not compressed in a plastic bag. Periodically inspect critical areas: reinforce loose threads, check seam integrity, and clean out dirt/debris from Velcro to maintain its grip. For minor repairs, use a gear repair tape or learn basic stitching with a heavy-duty needle and thread.

Key Principle: Always check the manufacturer's care label first, as materials like genuine flame-resistant (FR) fabrics, Gore-Tex, or soft-shell fabrics may have specific requirements. Following these steps will keep your tactical gear mission-ready for years.
